Posting from Heather – January 2014
“Hello Everyone !
We started sailing again in September. We had our day sails but had an overnight at Tabarca island – everyone had a good time and we anchored there for the night. We have had more crew join us who have been out – it has been rough at times with the weather but everyone was happy to be there. We will be starting again during January.
Happy Sailing to everyone in 2014!
This has been sent to me from Sarah and Nigel
The inagural SAMM sails of Gemini J took place over a couple of days in October 2015 and took in the Día de Caldero in Los Alcazares. Unfortunately the first planned sail was cancelled due to high seas – so rather than sailing on Friday we sailed on Sunday from CN Campoamor (the home mooring of Gemini J) to a visitor mooring at CN Mar Menor in Los Alcazares. Thanks to Ian and Jacky for stepping in at short notice and sailing with us. The weather was lovely – unfortunately with little wind so the majority of the day was spent under motor. We cruised down to the entrance to the Mar Menor and caught the midday bridge opening. After that the wind picked up and we managed to get a close reach across the Mar Menor towards Los Alcazares. Our entrance to the marina was made interesting by the windsurfing competition taking place just outside the habour entry channel – we negociated our way through what turned out to be the children´s windsurf race and successfully berthed just inside the breakwater on the visitor jetty.
The return journey was equally entertaining, on this occasion thanks to rain and wind – we motored across the Mar Menor – deciding to make sure we got there for the midday bridge – in actual fact we were early and moored on the waiting quay (in challenging winds) for the bridge to open . Thanks this time to Jeff and Veronica who helped us through quite a breezy sail. Once through the bridge we set sail for CN Campoamor and headed straight out for the wind farms to get a good run back to the marina. We had an excellent sail under genoa …. Including an unscheduled 360º turnaround thanks to the newbie not correcting her own mistake quickly enough (you´re right reader, that was me !!!)
We thoroughly enjoyed both sails thanks to the fantastic sailors we met and who helped us with our first group sails. We have recently moved Gemini J from CN Campoamor down to Marina de las Salinas in San Pedro del Pinatar – we look forward to many more happy sails with the club from our new mooring.
In May we had a Menu Del Dia. To celebrate Cruising Group 3rd year.
There were 14 of us, boat owners and crew. There was a lot of talking about all sorts of sailing, where people had sailed and their experiences.
Also about the SAMM walking group and the bike riding group and other member was talking about the pantomime that he was going to take part in.
We had a couple of ladies who were non sailors and found out that they had a bit in common,
The meal was lovely very filling and lots of it and plenty of wine and beer.
We went to Casa Pedro restaurant it serves very traditional Spanish

Five SAMM members, Ruth Groves, Rosemary Kavanagh, Mick Burgess, Heather Bell and Robert Hudson went out for a day sail on Wed 22nd of January, from Las Salinas Marina at San Pedro. It was a sunny day and we headed North, and anchored off Campoamor for lunch. On the way back, the wind picked up with gusts of up to 20 knots which made for a lively sail.
