Welcome to Shoestring Group! We are a shared ownership, dinghy sailing group, with welcoming and friendly members. Formed in March 2007 within the organisation “Sailing Association Mar Menor” (SAMM for short), with ten members and one dinghy; we have grown a lot since then and currently have four dinghies, a canoe and a maximum of 40
members of mixed Nationalities.  If you want to join us, please fill download and fill in the Shoestring Group Member Application 2009.  This is Adobe pdf File Format and requires Adobe Reader to read it.  Simply go to the Adobe website and download free as necessary. Once completed, you can take it to a SAMM Meeting or get it to our Membership Coordinator, Jack Moss by leaving it at a SAMM Meeting at CAR.

Our 4 boats and 1 canoe are located in the dinghy park of the CTD – “Centro de Tecnificacion Deportiva Infanta Cristina” (Formerly known as ‘CAR’), right on the beach at Los Narejos in Los Alcázares, and the boats are available to Members for use 365 days per year subject to the opening times of CAR.  The Google map Reference for Los Narejos is; https://maps.google.co.uk/maps  (Put ‘Los Narejos, Los Alcázares, Spain’ into the search window) and zoom in to get a closer look at the Boat Park and Jetty areas, or go to: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/myplaces?vpsrc=6&ctz=-60&abauth=501f7925h-mK8_ZrCu3wAOZUfZj50vwTm_g&vps=2&num=10 and select ‘CAR’ as listed in the ‘My Maps’ Menu.  If you switch to Satellite View, you will see a very clear 3D image of the complex and jetty area as below;

Our sailing is done on the ‘Mar Menor’ which translates as “Small Sea”
and is an almost land-locked salt water lagoon around 22 km long and up to
10 km wide, and no more than 7 meters deep maximum (average 4 m).

Every Friday, at about 11:00 we have a ‘Shoestring Day’ at CAR
where we gather to enjoy a friendly group sail and invite prospective members
to join us to learn more about our Group and perhaps enjoy a ‘taster’ sail,
weather and numbers permitting.

Three of our boats on the beach taking part in the local fiesta ‘Caldero Day’ in Los Alcázares, every October.
In June 2013, we added another Laser 2000 to our fleet, making four dinghies in total and now we have the ability to race our Lasers against each other!

Testimonial:

One new Member recently wrote;

“Dear Shoestringers,

Just to say a big thank you to all whom I met and sailed with during recent my two week holiday.  A special thank you to Jack, Ingo, Oakley and Tim for arranging sailing days and also to Pete for the fun we had with the spinnaker on Tres!  Sailing with you guys made my holiday and really helped in my “chillaxing”.

I appreciate all the hard work that goes into running Shoestring and the upkeep of the boats.  Due to living and working full time in England I cannot play an active role, but I am very grateful to you all who make Shoestring happen.  It is a brilliant club in a fantastic location – no doubt one of the best in the world.

With thanks again,

Gordon Barley”
