Shoestring Group
Welcome to Shoestring Group. We are a shared ownership, dinghy sailing group, with welcoming and friendly members. Formed in March 2007 within the organisation “Sailing Association Mar Menor” (SAMM for short), with ten members and one dinghy; we have grown a lot since then and currently have four dinghies, a canoe and a maximum of 40
members of mixed Nationalities.
Our 4 boats and 1 canoe are located in the dinghy park of the Centro de Alto Rendimiento Deportivo Mar Menor “Infanta Cristina” (CAR for short), right on the beach at Los Narejos in Los Alcázares, and the boats are available to Members for use 365 days per year subject to the opening times of CAR.
Our sailing is done on the ‘Mar Menor’ which translates as “Small Sea”
and is an almost land-locked salt water lagoon around 22 km long and up to
10 km wide, and no more than 7 meters deep maximum (average 4 m).
Every last Friday of each month, about 11:00 we have a ‘Shoestring Day’ at CAR
where we gather to enjoy a friendly group sail and invite prospective members
to join us to learn more about our Group and perhaps enjoy a ‘taster’ sail,
weather and numbers permitting.
