SAMM Elect New Commodore

After three years at the helm, Janice Penning the Commodore of SAMM, the Sailing Association Mar Menor, stepped down at the end of 2015 in accordance with the rules.
At the Associations AGM, held on Wednesday January 13th, the membership elected Paul Shard, a member of the Shoestring Dinghy Group within SAMM, to the position.
The Commodores job is to guide SAMM through any changes the membership requires, to represent SAMM in any negotiations with local organisations and authorities and generally oversee the running of the organisation for the benefit of its members.
Janice’s reign has seen a gradual increase in membership numbers up to the present level of 170, the consolidation of the Associations links with CAR, the Spanish sports establishment based on the shore of the Mar Menor at Los Narejos, Los Alcazares, where most of SAMM’s activities are based and latterly the acquisition of the new support boat, a Whaly 435R.
We wish Paul all good wishes to take the organisation into the future for the benefit of all sailors in the region.
George Wedgwood also stood down and Pat Fleck was elected to the post of web site administrator.
